Keeping your Bikini Belly While on Vacation

You've lost the weight to look awesome on vacation – great! Don't stop now! While on vacation, it can be tempting to stop dieting and exercising, but in no time at all, the belly you worked so hard to lose will be back. Here are some tips you can use to enjoy your vacation while also staying fit:

  • Go for the buffets.

Believe it or not, buffets on vacation can be as good as they are tempting. While you will have to have the resistance to say no to the fatty and sugar-filled foods that will be a part of the line, eating at a buffet gives you control over exactly what kinds of foods are on your plate. You can load up on veggies and lean proteins, and if you need to splurge on something high-calorie, you can get just a small amount rather than an entire pasta entrée or huge ice cream sundae.

  • Look for fun activities that include an exercise element.

Don't want to work out while on vacation? No problem. Keep your abs in shape by looking for fun activities that require you to do more than sit on the beach with a book. Swimming, hiking, biking and other outdoor activities all get you up and moving. Even shopping can be a good option if you opt to walk around town instead of taking a taxi.

  • Think before you drink.

While on vacation, some of the biggest sources of empty calories, sugar, and fat are the drinks. Alcoholic offerings, especially creamy mixed drinks and frozen drinks like pina coladas and frozen margaritas can be worse than a huge piece of chocolate cake! Beer is also a huge source of empty calories, and even non-alcoholic drinks like lemonade and frozen coffee drinks can wreak havoc on your bikini belly. Stick to water as much as possible, and when you want something special go for a light beer, red wine, or a mixed drink made with diet soda or seltzer water.

Keep in mind that before you leave on vacation, you should pick up a travel insurance policy that includes health coverage. Your health insurance may not cover you if you're in a foreign country or even in the same country but outside of your coverage area. Even if you try to stay healthy, you could get sick while on vacation, and if this happens, travel insurance will ensure that you get the care you need as quickly as possible.
